Of all the places I’ve been to in Scotland so far, Aviemore is one of my favorites. It’s a sweet little town with nice shops and friendly people. My trips into town can usually cost me up to £100 a day between eating out, matchas, and experiences, so I was trying to be more mindful before this one.
I packed a lunch and planned to visit The Green Loch, also known as Loch Uaine, and Loch Morlich. Again, I was dropped off early in the morning at the bus station and took the bus to Glenmore for a loch adventure.
Upon arriving at the Visitor Center, I sat and enjoyed the chia seed pudding and homemade granola I packed. Since I was the only one there, I felt comfortable eating inside before setting off on the hike to The Green Loch. I was a little surprised that it took so long to get there, but it was well worth it.

I can easily classify it as one of the most beautiful bodies of water I’ve ever seen. The snow was melting from the trees, causing this dazzling snowfall that looked almost enchanting.

After that, I set off toward Loch Morlich. Along the way, I had a few run-ins with the most gorgeous trees that I had to stop and hug. Loch Morlich was vast, with snow-capped mountains in the distance. I laid on the sand just as I would if I were on one of my native beaches in California.

It was again a gift being dropped off so early because I was able to experience both of these places in the morning before they were peppered with other hikers or tourists.

After asking the kind lady at the Visitor Center to refill my hot water mug, I took the return bus back to Aviemore. I enjoyed my packed sandwich on a bench while soaking in the sun, then browsed the little shops on a walk to the library. I ended up thrifting a beautiful jacket from an Irish designer and let the rest of the day play out in the library while I did some writing.

I loved the subtlety of this small town. It doesn’t demand much of you, and somehow the day felt full without spending much at all. I ended up spending less than £25 for the entire day, including my thrifted jacket. :)
