Let me tell you how I know that God is real.
This morning I got a ride to Culloden Battlefield but had to be dropped off at 8:30 a.m. It doesn’t open until 9:00, so I had 30 minutes to wait before the visitor center opened. When I was dropped off, I quickly realized two things:
a.) it was in the middle of nowhere, and
b.) the battlefield (like most, I presume) is flat, open land with no cover in sight.
So, in simple terms, I was in deep shit.
I bundled up as much as possible because the wind and cold at 8:30 a.m. were brutal, and I prayed, quickly.
Within five minutes, while I stood out on the open battlefield with nowhere to hide from the cold, a bus pulled up to the visitor center and parked. I quickly made my way toward it, and the bus driver, a very kind man, said it was going to the exact place I needed to go: Inverness. He would be leaving in 15 minutes, and I was welcome to wait on the warm bus until takeoff. He didn’t even make me pay the £5–£8 bus fare.
Before going to Culloden, Google Maps showed it would be a seven-minute walk to the bus stop to Inverness. How the bus pulled directly to the area I was in was a miracle. In a situation that seemed like there was no way around it, God provided. Things beyond understanding. I’m so grateful!
Spending the day in Inverness is recommended for anyone visiting Scotland. I took two trips here! The city center is close to so much enriching history, and from there you can easily fill a full day with activities. Walking along the River Ness was how I chose to start my day, and from there everything else unfolded.
To escape the cold morning breeze, I spent time praying in the cathedral before heading to Inverness Castle, where they offer a two-hour tour of the grounds, although I didn’t take this option.
There are many coffee shops, and Victorian Market is an Inverness staple. If you don’t want to grab a bite there, I highly suggest The Mustard Seed for their specialty lunch or dinner menus, or The Black Isle Bar for pizza and a specialty brew. If you plan ahead, you might even be able to score reservations at the town’s hottest restaurant, Hou Hou Mei, just across the bridge.
Loch Ness is also a standout whether you cruise around or get off the boat to explore. There are so many shops and unforgettable things to do in Inverness.
